GREEN PHILOSOPHY
Because most people spend 80% to 90% of our time indoors, DW Interior Design is committed to incorporating sustainable, eco-friendly options into our interior design plans whenever possible. Sustainable design has proven health benefits, it reduces our consumption of non-renewable resources, it improves energy efficiency, and it’s the right thing to do for our planet.
Whenever possible, DW Design Group’s sustainable design philosophy encourages:
- installation of energy-efficient appliances, windows, lighting, insulation and mechanical systems
- renovation of structures and restoration of existing materials
- selection of earth-friendly finishes, products, building materials and furnishings
- use of zero or low VOC paints, wall coverings, stains, adhesives and sealers
- use of wood and bamboo products that have no added urea formaldehyde
- selection of carpet, carpet pads and furnishings that are made from organic materials, untreated natural fibers and use water-based finishes
- collaboration with LEED certified builders
- active participation of DW Design Group interior decorators and designers in the Northern Colorado chapter of the United States Green Building Council
- donation of certain materials and supplies to Habitat for Humanity
Whenever possible, DW Interior Design decorators and designers make professional and personal choices for a healthier planet, including:
- the creation of an in-home design studio to minimize the principal designer’s carbon footprint
- carpooling to “stacked” appointments
- stocking our design studio with a large selection of samples, reducing the need for travel to source products
- adopting a buy-local philosophy for lunches, open houses, special event supplies, marketing needs and graphic design services
- recycling of plastic, paper, cardboard, aluminum and other items at the design studio, on job sites and in our own homes
